Crane's Mill at West Caldwell Master Plan

Situated on an expansive property in a desirable suburb not far from New York City, Cranes Mill at West Caldwell is a Life Plan community with a thriving and active resident population. To strengthen their viability and marketability, in 2010 Cranes Mill and KDA created a new master plan for the campus to respond to market conditions and consumer preferences.

The first phase of the master plan was completed in 2012 which incorporated a four-faceted campus expansion project adding 70 independent living apartments, 10 new cottages, created a new 18-bed dementia wing, and renovated an existing campus healthcare center, adding 48 assisted living beds, a new dining room, and a new activity room. After completing the first phase of the master plan, Cranes Mill turned their focus to the community commons and wellness spaces. KDA presented designs for a building expansion and renovation, with distinct goals to provide the critical square footage needed with optimal space adjacencies and with a prominent design that embraced a connection to activity, daylight and the outdoors.
