Parkland at Shaker Pointe Independent Living

Watervliet, NY

The Sisters of St. Joseph engaged KDA Architects to design Shaker Pointe - Parkland, an independent living facility for the middle and lower market where no entrance fee is required.  This true rental product allows residents to receive services from Shaker Pointe as needed, including dining programs, access to the fitness facilities and pool, medical and nursing care, and housekeeping.

Our most challenging obstacle of this project was the fragmented distribution of developable land limited by the extent and location of environmentally sensitive areas. To overcome this issue, we created a strong, shared architectural theme for the various building types, and placed the building groups as separate, but related mini-communities connected with a comprehensive walkway system.

The result—providing a comprehensive set of services to the surrounding senior community—is accomplished by placing the community center at the heart of the campus, and making it accessible to all residents.
