The Evergreens Master Plan
Moorestown, NJ
By the early 1990s, The Evergreens had become a declining nursing and assisted living facility with an uncertain future. Through the guidance and expertise of KDA Architects, the Board of Trustees was able to reinvent the residence as one of the premiere life plan communities in the region. As principal architect and planner, KDA was responsible for all aspects of the master plan, design, and construction administration. The new design integrated the former pre-war mansion into a more unified, gracious residence offering 216 independent living units, a 60-bed extended care facility and clinic, and a 40-bed residential health care unit. All building infrastructure, administrative offices, community facilities (including support spaces) were upgraded and renovated at a cost of $28 million in 1996.
More recently, KDA Architects designed a four-phase repositioning plan for the campus. Phase 1, the renovation of the dining venues and kitchen, was completed in 2009. Phase 2, a new 86,000 SF Health Care Center opened in 2012. The new Health Care Center offers residents a warm and welcoming neighborhood model for extended care services, giving residents a home-like setting.
